Benefits of VoIP for a Small Business
Friday, August 05, 2011 by Michael Lewis
For a growing business, the phone system is not a priority. In a
perfect world it is something that you never have to think about.
The phone sits on your desk and rings. That works pretty well
when an office has less than a handful of people. But as a business
grows, so does the need to communicate. Modern business VoIP
systems provide small businesses greater flexibility at a much
reduced cost.
Business phone systems rely on Private Branch Exchange (PBX)
systems. A PBX sites between the public phone line and each phone
and fax machine in an office and routes phone traffic between each
extension. In the past, these systems were large and
expensive making it very difficult for anyone but the largest
businesses to take full advantage of power they offer. As high
speed data became more important businesses had to maintain two
inbound connections and routing systems; one for voice and one for
data.
VoIP Phone systems have done away with this inefficiency.
By switching to VoIP phones, you only need to maintain a
signal network for all of your communication needs. A VoIP
PBX system can handle both voice and data.
A VoIP phone system provides many of the features that were once
out of reach of small business. Since VoIP phones use data
networks, they are no longer tied to your desk. Calls can be easily
forwarded to home phones, remote offices or cell phones. A 2010
report by the
Nextiva shows that small businesses are using VoIP phone
systems in order to take advantage of auto-assistants, voicemail
access and powerful integration tools. VoIP Phone system can also
integrate directly into existing email and CRM. By unifying
communication, you and your staff will spend less time trying to
keep communication organized and spend more time focusing on
growing your business.
