Microsoft Announces Windows 8
Thursday, June 02, 2011 by Michael Lewis
Today at the D9 conference, Microsoft officially unveiled the
next version of its flagship operating system Windows 8. Based on
early reports, this is the first major overhaul to the OS since
Windows 95 was released in August 1995.
They have taken a cue from the latest version Windows Phone 7.
According to
Gizmodo, "The fundamental goal with the new operating system,
which is being shown for the first time at D9, is to create
something that is equally well at home on an 8-inch tablet as it is
on a powerful desktop attached to a huge monitor." The new
interface is meant to be flexible enough to use with both a
traditional mouse and keyboard or using a touch-based interface.
Software developers can create standard windows applications or
build mobile-like apps using HTML5 and JavaScript.
Here is the rub. This new interface is just a skin on top of
Windows. We will get a more in-depth look in the fall when
Microsoft holds their annual developers conference. What we can say
is that this could have a huge impact on the way small businesses
use technology.
Until next time -
