Does Your Marketing Plan Need Some Remodeling?
Tuesday, June 14, 2011 by Michelle Hartley
Almost every business strives to find a cohesive, profitable
marketing strategy, but it takes a lot of hard work to actually
accomplish this feat. There are several key, detectable signs that
your marketing plan is not on track. Recognizing the need to change
or update your strategy is the first step in moving towards a
profitable, long-term marketing strategy for your business.
Some important questions to ask yourself about your current
marketing strategy include:
Do you have a concrete plan?
Many businesses find what works for them now, and stick with it.
Yet, part of being a successful business owner is planning for the
future of your company and consistently taking steps to ensure it
is heading in the direction of your overall business objectives. If
you have no clue where you will be in 5 years and only have a
marketing plan in place for the next 3 months, you might need some
remodeling. Concrete marketing plans start with cemented business
plans. Your business objectives will go hand in hand with the goals
and needs of your marketing.
Is your competition outshining you?
More than likely, you and your direct competition have similar
budget constraints. Therefore, your marketing plan does not need to
suffer simply because of a small budget. Finding and directing your
small budget towards what works for you is the key to the most
efficient small business marketing. What is essential for you to
harness is what differentiates you from your competitors. What is
it that makes you different, more desirable to your target market
than your fellow competitors? Once you corner the strategy that
demonstrates how you stand out from the crowd, you are able to
market to your clients more successfully. From there, try different
avenues to market your business. One of the most popular avenues
that businesses large and small are successfully utilizing is
social media. The best part is that most social media sites are
completely free for you to join.
Are all of your marketing materials cohesive?
Do you say one thing about your business on your website and
something completely different on your Twitter page? A cohesive
message across all media is important in shaping your brand and
leaving a lasting impression in the minds of your potential
customers. Messages that don't match give consumers mixed opinions
and feelings about your brand which leads to confusion about what
your company represents. Each piece of marketing should complement
the next. This will allow for you to convey the meaning behind your
brand in every media that your consumer views your brand.
As your business grows, it is important to consider whether your
marketing message matches where your business plan intends on
going. Keeping up to date with your marketing plan and staying
current with your target market will only help expand your business
in the future.
