Technology & Small Business Viewed as Most Positive Influence on U.S.

The weather may have you down, but if you happen to work in a
small business or technology-related field, your work gives
Americans the most hope in returning to a stable society. With
anger and frustration boiling over regarding politics and big
business, it is the hard-working entrepreneurs and technicians that
bring hope to an otherwise dreary state of the nation.
According to a March Pew Research Center survey, while anger
and frustration toward the federal government builds, technology
companies have garnered the least amount of negativity,
beating out people's sentiments toward colleges, churches, and even
small businesses.
Although the younger generation consistently expresses positive
confidence in the technology industry (80% of those age 30 and
under), it is the older generations that have a surprise vote of
positive influence. 66% of those ages 50-64 saw technology as a
positive influence and 52% for ages 65 and older. Men are more
likely than women to hype the positive vibe of technology (73% to
63%) and those with further education see technology as more
beneficial (75% for college grads, 60% for those with lesser
education than some college).
In another survey, BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, found that
technology can be linked to happiness. After surveying 35,000
individuals, it found "access to communication devices" as most
valued and women specifically in developing countries were most
influenced emotionally by their access to technology. A researcher,
Paul Flatters of Trajectory Partnership, reasons that it is due to a woman's central
role in family and social circles.
This report contradicts the notion that technology advancement
is having an adverse effect on our dependence, communication
skills, and health.
Mr. Flatters points out that "a lot of things that are written
about IT are negative, but we were puzzled by the fact that people
are attached to their IT as well."
Technology has established itself as a lasting influence on
society. It's hard to deny the positive impact that those in the
tech sector have worked hard at providing, morphing the image of IT
into one of truly great potential and capabilities.
