Switchfast Blog: The Future of IT
IE9 Now Available for Test Drive
Tuesday, March 16, 2010 by Bryan Anderson
Microsoft hopes to jump back into the browser race with the
upcoming release of IE9. Until then, they have unveiled the first
developer preview today at www.IETestDrive.com.
Here is a list of highlights regarding Internet Explorer 9:
- Microsoft officials will show off the planned support for
HTML5, CSS3, and SVG2 standards while using the product today at
Mix 10 keynote
- As Gizmodo points out, this latest HTML language will
ultimately make websites behave more like applications
- No plugin required for online video with h.264 formatting
included with HTML5
- Certain images and Flash-style animations will benefit from the
scalable vector graphics (SVG)
- Net JavaScript Engine designed to be as fast as any browser's
present capabilities
Over at ZDnet.com, one of the blogs claims:
Microsoft is planning to deliver a lot more preview builds of IE
9 before it hits beta. In fact, the team is committing to
delivering an update every eight weeks, and to interact with
developers via the Microsoft Connect feedback loop. Microsoft
officials wouldn't say when to expect the first IE 9 beta or to
provide any kind of ship date target for the final release.
All this is quite a leap from its anti-safe IE6 browser, but
Microsoft is headed in the right direction with the release and
support of Windows 7, Windows 7 mobile, and now their IE9
HTML5-loving browser development.
Anyone else excited about an opportunity to see what this
browser can do?
Summaries over at Arstechnica, ZDNet, and Gizmodo.
