Microsoft Azure Platform Opens to Public
Monday, February 01, 2010 by Administrator
The cloud-computing arena just got more crowded with Microsoft
officially charging customers for developing and running apps in
its three-years-in-the-works Azure cloud. Starting today, February
1st, developers and customers can utilize the Windows
Azure operating system and use the SQL Azure hosted database.
With beta tests already a year in, is Azure ready for the
customer market?
Microsoft officials are stating that plenty of services and apps
can be found running on Azure. As 2010 progresses, Microsoft will
unveil more of the on-premises 'private cloud' complements that are
planned for Azure.
Directions on Microsoft analyst Rob Sanfilippo states that Azure
remains "a fledgling platform, and will take large deployments and
time to prove its scalability, stability, and security." Previous
Azure customers have been using Azure for 'cloudbursting,'
providing overflow capacity to supplement what customers currently
use on-premise.
Will the Azure cloud be something for your company to consider?
Does it fit within your IT structure? Once developers and customers
rev up app building and using, we'll see if Microsoft has provided
the correct operating environment for both.
