Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation a Gentleman-ly Cause
Monday, December 20, 2010 by Michael Lewis
For Ryan Owen and Onnie Mayshek, the decision to create "Gentleman's
Choice" was initially one of creative satisfaction; however,
their submission to the 2011 Doritos/Pepsi MAX Crash the Super Bowl
Challenge has since evolved into a meaningful attempt to help
our war veterans. With a prize consisting of up to two million
dollars, tickets to the Super Bowl, and chance to have their work
viewed by millions worldwide, the duo teamed up with their talented
friends at think/feel.tv, a production company in Brooklyn, NY. The
result: a hilarious, slow-motion account of the misadventures of a
common gentleman and his potentially dangerous choice of Super Bowl
snack.
Realizing they had an impressive entry to show, Owen and Mayshek
started thinking about what they would do with the money if they
became finalists. "We began to envision the ways in which the prize
money would improve the lives of all our families," explains Owen.
Inspired by a personal connection- Owen's best friend is set to
deploy to Afghanistan soon- the group pledged to donate a portion
of the any winnings to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation,
America's oldest and largest group for combat veterans.
In order to win the grand prize and contribute some serious cash
to the VFW Foundation,
"Gentleman's Choice" must first be selected by judges as one of ten
finalists; the rest is up to the fans. Owen and Mayshek are asking
for everyone's help in spreading the word about "Gentleman's
Choice" by voting for the video and telling friends. From January
3rd to the 30th, viewers may vote for their favorite submission here.
In December 2010, Owen and Mayshek teamed up with Switchfast
Technologies to help spread the word about "Gentleman's Choice" and
their partnership with the VFW Foundation.
