Windows Phone 7: Bridging the Gaps Where Apple Cannot?
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 by Bryan Anderson
For years, Apple, Google and Research In Motion (RIM) have been
the main competitors in the smart phone market. However, many
smart phone users have felt that all three of these options
have failed to targeting the needs of business users.
Multiple third-party applications are needed to make these smart
phones behave and work well with desktop computers.
Now, Microsoft has launched a full-scale attack on the smart
phone market with the upcoming release of their Windows 7
phone. As Microsoft tries to take over another aspect of the
technological world, many are optimistic about the business
productivity Windows offers
Microsoft is really tackling the business app demand for smart
phones and already has many business types salivating with the
PowerPoint presentation capabilities. The Windows phone 7
allows users to receive PowerPoint presentations via email, and
view them just as they look on their computers. For
enterprise users on the go, the phone also allows for PowerPoint to
connect with projectors control presentations from the phone.
For many on the go users who want to receive their Microsoft
Outlook mail on their phone, Windows phone 7 is the solution.
Presentations of the phone have shown the similarity between
outlook on the phone and computer, and the user interface on the
phone even has some added perks like the "I'll be late" button for
scheduling conflicts.
The next few months will be interesting to watch as Microsoft
enters the smart phone market as a main competitor. While
late to the party, it seems like Microsoft has assimilated the best
aspects of all the main smart phone competitors and bridged the
gaps with their Windows phone 7. It has a sharp, fun
interface and the kind of business appeal that may just knock Apple
off its pedestal. Will the smart phone "Big Three" become the
smart phone "Big Four," or does Microsoft have a dud on their
hands?
Until next time -
