Microsoft Offers Free AntiVirus Software
Wednesday, September 30, 2009 by Michael Holley
Microsoft is now offering a free full-featured antivirus bundle
called Microsoft Security Essentials, for Windows users only.
Commercial antivirus giants like Symantec and Trend will likely
view this as a threat, but Microsoft claims that it's just trying
to ensure that all Windows users can be safe from malware,
regardless of whether or not they can afford antivirus software.
I'm inclined to agree with Microsoft's move, given that their brand
is traditionally hurt by the constant barrage of security attacks
it receives thanks to its high market share. The more they can do
to curb the influx of user malware infection, they better off
they'll be. With Microsoft, however, there is always the threat of
an antitrust lawsuit as well.
You can find more info and download Microsoft Security
Essentials for free here.
