Apple to Release Snow Leopard on Friday (8/28)
Tuesday, August 25, 2009 by Michael Holley
In a surprise move, Apple has announced that the latest update
of its popular OS X, known as Snow Leopard, will be released to
retail this Friday, 8/28, presumably months ahead of schedule.
Making a public point to beat Microsoft's pricing on Windows 7
upgrades, Snow Leopard upgrades will be available for $29 on an
individual basis, or $49 for a "family pack" of up to five
upgrades.
Here's a summary of significant improvements (you can view
Apple's full list here):
- Full 64-bit support, including 64-bit upgrades of many software
titles
- Improved multithreading technology for performance enhancement
by getting the most out of current hardware
- Built in support for Microsoft Exchange 2007
- Greatly enhanced Finder application
- Improved trackpad technology to aid the visually impaired
