Is Google’s “Caffeine” a game-changer for SEO?

Friday, August 14, 2009 by Michael Holley

Google has officially made available for use a working prototype of a major revamp of its search algorithm. The impending update will allegedly improve the search experience on many levels, allowing users to experience faster loading times, larger indexes, and more relevant results, with increased emphasis on recency and social media. The project is codenamed "Caffeine."

While many people are claiming that this rather significant occurrence must be a response to the pressure that Microsoft's Bing has recently placed on Google's number one spot in the search business, but Google claims to have been working on Caffeine since long before Bing's announcement.

You can check out Google's "Caffeine" build by clicking here. Many bloggers have already begun to note the differences. Although the algorithm will likely undergo many changes before it goes live as the new Google, it is important to note that your website's SERP rankings for your targeted keywords will likely change significantly, meaning that you're going to want to take a look at where you stand and contact the proper SEO authorities, if necessary, to ensure that you maintain your rank. Fortunately, by the time the new algorithm is finished and officially live, most SEO specialists will have played with the demo for quite some time.

Best,
