Switchfast Blog: The Future of IT
As a source of customers, the internet has become impossible to ignore
Thursday, July 09, 2009 by Michael Holley
As of March 31st, 2009, internet penetration in North America
was a world-leading 74.4% (over 250 million people) and still
growing. News media is scrambling to monetize online content to
keep up with society's widespread adoption of the web as the most
relevant and up-to-date source of information available. Social
networking is becoming a mainstay among cultural pastimes;
Nielsen's research shows an 83% increase in the total number of
minutes spent on social networking in the United States over the
past year. With so many consumers spending so much time on the
internet, how can it be ignored as a medium for lead and sales
generation?
While the internet remains flush with prospective customers, a
well-planned and well-executed strategy is necessary to tap the
web's potential. Where banner blindness has rendered traditional
online advertising techniques virtually useless, digital media and
interactive content have thrived as influences to purchasing
behavior. Organic search engine optimization is necessary to drive
traffic and a strong brand message is necessary to convert the
traffic. With a sound plan, your website can work for you,
producing revenue automatically while you focus on other
initiatives.
If you don't have a comprehensive online strategy for your
business, you're doing yourself a disservice. Start by analyzing
your target audience(s) and identifying which channels provide the
quickest and easiest path to your consumers. After you prioritize
your initiatives, put a timeline together for implementation.
Remember, your online reputation can be one of the strongest
influences of buyer behavior!
Best,
