Workaround for Microsoft ActiveX Security Vulnerability for IE6 and IE7

Tuesday, July 07, 2009 by Michael Holley

Yesterday, Microsoft announced a critical vulnerability in its Video ActiveX Control that could potentially lead to a hacker taking control of an infected PC.

The vulnerability affects Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 on IE6 and IE7, although Microsoft is recommending that Vista and Windows Server 2008 users apply the suggested workaround just in case. To implement the workaround, follow this link and click on the "Enable workaround" button under the "Fix it for me" heading.

Microsoft is reportedly working on a security update that will permanently alleviate this issue, and will release it soon. For more information on how this security flaw could affect your system, check out CNET's blog entry here.

Let us know if you have any questions or problems.

Best,

Michael Holley
