Green technology isn’t going anywhere but up

Wednesday, June 10, 2009 by Michael Holley

As CNET reports, Deloitte Research and the National Venture Capital Association have found that 63 percent of surveyed venture capitalists expect growth in green technologies over the next year. This statistic is according to their annual Global Trends survey, which utilizes a sample of 725 venture capitalists.

What does this mean for your business's IT? While you won't likely be seeing solar-powered PCs taking over the office any time soon, you will be seeing the accelerated widespread adoption of virtualization, remote and mobile technologies, and energy-efficient hardware. Fortunately, as more investment capital is poured into innovation, developers will feel the pressure to monetize the technology quickly, which means releasing products at competitive prices that are designed not only to save energy, but also to save money for the end user, relative to existing technology.

So keep an eye out for opportunities to jump on the bandwagon. If you don't do it for the environment, do it for your checkbook!

Best,

Michael Holley
