Lower-priced Windows 7 licenses for netbooks will have maximum spec limit
Wednesday, May 27, 2009 by Michael Holley
For months, rumors have been afloat about how Microsoft will
deal with netbooks with the release of Windows 7. ZDnet and CNET have now reported that Microsoft will
provide low cost licensing for Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic for
Small Notebook PCs, but there will be a system specification limit
that the netbooks cannot exceed. As reported by Tech ARP, those limits are as follows:
- Screen size: 10.2"
- Memory: 1GB RAM
- Storage: 250GB (disk) or 64GB (solid state)
- Graphics: No Limit
- CPU: Single core, 2GHz, 15W thermal design power (not including
graphics and chipset)
If you're planning on moving to a Windows 7 environment when
it's released later this year, keep these system specs in mind when
making hardware purchases to save yourself some money down the line
on licensing costs.
Best,
