Quick fix for Internet Explorer 8 crashing with faulting module urlmon.dll
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 by Michael Holley
Chris Barker, one of our network engineers, spotted a quick
fix for a recent issue with IE8 in conjunction with Spybot
immunizations. You know you're having this problem if you receive
this error:
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 8.0.6001.18702,
faulting module urlmon.dll, version 8.0.6001.18702, fault address
0x0003e819. For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
The Spybot immunization process adds more than 10,000 domains to
IE8's "restricted sites," which is far too much for IE8 to handle.
If you're getting this error message or your browser is sluggish
and you use Spybot, click here for the fix and follow the
directions below:
- Download and unzip the contents of DelDomains.zip
- Right click on the unzipped file (DelDomain.inf) and chose
Install
- Double check that the restricted sites have been deleted: open
Internet Explorer and go to Tools, Internet Options. Click the
Security Tab, Restricted Sites icon, and then the Sites button and
confirm that the list of Restricted Websites is blank.
If you have any trouble running the fix or any additional
questions, shoot us an email at TheFutureOfIT@switchfast.com
and we'll help you out. You can also
