Verizon Doubles Early-Termination Fee for Smartphones

Friday, November 20, 2009 by Michael Holley

America's top wireless provider, Verizon Wireless, has made the highly controversial decision double its early-termination fee for smartphone contracts, from $175 to $300. Verizon's early-termination policy has now been criticized by customers, other phone carriers, and the FCC at various stages of its existence. The fee increase applies ONLY to smartphones; customers without phones that Verizon consider's "advanced devices" will not be affected.

CNET has posted an "Early-Termination Fee FAQ" full of great info. Head over there and check it out to make sure you avoid an increasingly-lofty unnecessary charge!
