Non-Profits: Upgrade to Windows 7 for free through TechSoup

Ed -- The content of this blog post are no longer accurate. For more information on how Switchfast Technologies can assist your Nonproft, please visit our IT Solution for Nonprofit Organizations page. Thank you.

TechSoup has announced that Windows 7 upgrades will be available free of cost to qualified non-profits on October 22nd, even for organizations who have already received a Microsoft donation this year.

This is big news for all non-profits, but especially those who are still using Windows XP. If Windows 7 makes sense for your organization, I would strongly suggest taking advantage of this opportunity to get onto a platform that will be supported for years to come. There are, however, a few considerations to make before deciding to upgrade. TechSoup will be creating resources to help you decide which OS to use, but it basically boils down to this:

  • Does your organization rely on business-critical software? You'll want to make sure it will run properly on Windows 7. If it won't, you'll need to make sure your hardware can support Windows 7's "XP Mode."
  • Is your hardware able to run Windows 7? Although the minimum system requirements for Windows 7 are essentially the same as Windows Vista, they are significantly higher than the requirements for Windows XP.

Have your tech guys look into the compatibility concerns, and take advantage of this great offer! You can view TechSoup's original announcement here.

Best,

Michael Holley

    Anthony -

Since the donation program is facilitated through Microsoft's Software Donation Program, the next step would be registering with them. TechSoup has a great resource on the Donation Program here:
