Free Software Scans Twitter Links for Malware
Friday, October 30, 2009 by Michael Holley
As more trusting internet users continue turning to social media
to spend their time online, cybercriminals continue to find news
ways to exploit them and steal their information.
It's estimated that 26% of all posts on Twitter contain a
hyperlink, and between 100 and 1,000 of those links each day
contain malware. Fortunately, there are ways to protect yourself
from such threats.
One such way is with a free plugin from Finjan called
SecureBrowser. SecureBrowser scans all hyperlinks displayed by
browser window before you click them, providing a bubble with
security information upon mouse over. In this way, you're
proactively protected from malware, because if a threat exists,
you'll know not to click it.
Of course, SecureBrowser isn't perfect, and has trouble scanning
certain pages, but it's free and very easy to use, and just might
save you from a frustrating, expensive computer repair bill.
